Choosing a Reliable Real Estate Agent in Cameroon

Updated Tuesday, October 27, 2026

A good real estate agent saves you time and helps you avoid costly mistakes. However, the market also includes many informal intermediaries, known as "solicitors" or "unlicensed agents." Here is how to tell the difference.

Licensed Agent vs. Unlicensed Solicitor

The real estate profession is regulated by a 2001 law and a 2007 decree: a legitimate agent operates with an official license (agrément) from the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing (MINDUH). In contrast, an unlicensed solicitor often has neither an office nor a business registration, and may sometimes collect fees from both the landlord and the tenant.

Questions to Ask

  • Do you hold an official license? Ask for the license number.
  • Do you have an office that I can visit?
  • Do you have a written mandate from the property owner for this listing?
  • What are your fees, and who is responsible for paying them? Get this in writing.
  • Will you provide a receipt for every payment made?

A professional, reliable agent will answer these questions without hesitation and will never ask for money before a property viewing.

What a Badge on ImmoCam24 Means

A verification badge indicates that ImmoCam24 has verified a specific detail regarding an advertiser as of the date displayed—for example, an identity document or a business registration. It does not constitute a guarantee of the property itself or of the advertiser's legal ownership of that property.

Always conduct your own checks.
